Facebook and Instagram have some pretty strict rules about what can’t be advertised. Here’s a rundown of the types of ads that won’t make it past their review process:

🚫 Restricted or Prohibited Content:

  • Illegal products or services – If it’s illegal, it’s not getting advertised. Heck, it’s not going to get past us. Ads promoting illegal drugs, prescription drugs without authorization, counterfeit goods, or illicit financial products.
  • Tobacco & related products – No cigars, cigarettes, vapes, or e-cigarettes, and any tobacco-related paraphernalia.
  • Drugs & drug-related products – This includes recreational drugs, prescription meds (without approval), and drug paraphernalia.
  • Weapons, ammunition & explosives – Guns, knives, fireworks, and anything that goes boom won’t pass. Sorry, Perry Gun Club, we can’t promote your fundraisers.
  • Adult content – Not even going to describe this at all.
  • Misinformation – Anything flagged as false news or misleading content. Here’s the rundown of this, ads that promote false information, conspiracy theories, or misleading claims.
  • Third-Party Infringement – Ads that violate copyrights, trademarks, or impersonate other brands. I’m a real stickler on this.
  • Profanity and Inappropriate Language – Ads that use offensive, vulgar, or hateful language. Not going to happen.
  • Misleading Business Models – Ads that involve payday loans, multi-level marketing (MLMs), or deceptive financial products.

 

⚠️ Restricted Categories (Need Approval or Specific Rules):

  • Alcohol 🍷 – Allowed in some regions, but must follow local laws. We’re not even going to try.
  • Financial services 💰 – Loans, credit cards, and investments need disclaimers and transparency. Will promote but with the necessary information.
  • Health products & supplements 🏥 – Certain claims about weight loss, medical treatments, and supplements are closely monitored. Because of this, we do not accept these types of ads.
  • Cryptocurrency 🪙 – Needs written permission from Meta to run ads. Check with us.
  • Social issues, elections & politics 🗳️ – Absolutely no politics.

👀 Tricky Areas That Often Get Rejected:

  • Before & after images (like dramatic weight loss pics) It’s these that will get dinged. Weight loss or cosmetic surgery ads due to unrealistic expectations.
  • Sensational or exaggerated claims (e.g., "Make $10,000 overnight!")
  • Personal Health Claims – Ads making exaggerated health claims, including cures for diseases or misleading weight loss solutions. Ads can't say, "Struggling with anxiety?" or call out specific medical conditions.
